Ex-Engadget editors turned gdgteers.
Engadget alumni turned internet entrepreneurs, Block and Rojas launched gdgt in July, redefining what a gadget-focussed website does. Instead of reporting obsessively on all manner of tech news, they’ve given users a social networking site to list the gadgets they have and want, and a forum to swap tips and tricks.
But whatever you do, just don’t suggest to the two San Francisco-based gdgteers that tech news sites are dead. “The age of starting a new all-purpose gadget or tech blog is long over. The opportunity we saw in gdgt isn't to be yet nother alternative to the Engadgets, Gizmodos and T3s of the world, but instead to be a wholly unique place where gadget users of all walks could dive deeper on their products and get more out of them” Block told us.
Rojas agreed. “We started gdgt because we thought there was an opportunity to have something more personalized and specific to you and the gadgets you own. I think we're about complementing what's out there, rather than supplanting it”, he said, but Block admitted “we also know the last thing the world needs is yet another social network, which is why we decided to initially focus on the gadget as the social object”.
